42 Draconis b. IAU NameExoWorlds 2015. Ruled out 2025.
In 2009 a wobble around 42 Draconis looked like a giant planet. In 2015 the IAU named it Orbitar. Later radial velocities did not follow that orbit. Infrared light from the star pulsed on the same period. There is no giant planet. The name is empty.
What it supports
A dated reversal. Döllinger et al. 2009 published about 3.9 Jupiter masses in 479 days. Hatzes et al. 2025, A&A 699, A260, title the finding: no planet around 42 Dra. The velocity amplitude fell by a factor of four. A second period near 530 days appears. COBE/DIRBE 1.25 μm photometry varies on the published planet period and on about 170 days. NASA’s archive records a false positive. The 42 is the host’s Flamsteed number. The miss is the companion.
What it does not
Not Fafnir the star. Not a 42-world. Not 4200 K. The 2009 orbit is historical. Photometry plus amplitude collapse is the evidence. Two hard facts in one system is still not a mechanism.
