Strom et al. 1972: infrared fluxes for 42 stars in the young cluster NGC 2264.
Flux at 1.6, 2.2 and 3.4 μm for 42 stars. Many show infrared excess from circumstellar dust. The 42 is the sample they measured.

What it does not
Not a defining count of NGC 2264. Sample-bound. Not 42 Orionis.
