Molybdenum is element 42. The integer is the proton count. JPL later nicknamed it the Douglas Adams element. That nickname is a joke on the integer, not a second proton count.

What it supports
A periodic-table designation: Mo, Z=42. IUPAC. Russell and Barge at JPL, 2014, called molybdenum the Douglas Adams element because of that integer, in a paper on alkaline vents and the origin of life.
What it does not
Not a mystical metal. Not evidence that 42 organises chemistry. The Adams nickname is reception. The origin-of-life claim is a hypothesis, not a proof that Deep Thought was right.
