Orion’s Sword holds two 42s of different kinds. Flamsteed 42 Orionis is a hot B star. Messier 42 is a catalogue nebula. They sit in the same naked-eye stretch. 42 Ori ionizes NGC 1977, the Running Man, just north of M42. NASA: its radiation makes a young stellar jet visible.

What it supports
