Merope’s mean V magnitude is +4.18. Some catalogues round her to 4.2. Hubble caught the cloud she is tearing, IC 349. Family is 4.2, not 42. Glare is a looking-lesson.

A measured stellar brightness plus a Hubble source plate. Wikipedia and SIMBAD print 4.18. Popular catalogues often round to 4.2. The rounding is reception, not a second measurement.
