Roederer et al. 2022. 42 r-process elements, 31 ≤ Z ≤ 90, from 404 Hubble UV plus optical lines.
One old star, far in Tucana. Hubble counted its metals. Forty-two of them, from gallium toward thorium, including gold. The most complete such inventory then known beyond the Sun.
What it supports
A hard spectroscopic count. Hubble STIS plus optical. ApJS 260, 27. The 42 is the r-process set in that atomic-number range, not the whole periodic table.
What it does not
Not 63 collapsed to 42. Not a second copy of the fission sample. Gold in the spectrum is chemistry, not a seal.
