Recorded

13 September 2017. Cassini’s last full portrait of Saturn and the rings, mosaicked from 42 red, green and blue wide-angle frames.

Two days before the plunge, Cassini’s wide-angle camera took a last full portrait. The natural-color mosaic is 42 of 80 frames, red, green, and blue. Image scale on Saturn is about 42 miles per pixel. That scale is a neighbor, not this count.

Documentary plate

NASA / JPL-Caltech / Space Science Institute. 13 September 2017. PIA17218. 42 of 80 wide-angle frames.

What it supports

A dated NASA/JPL/SSI imaging artifact. PIA17218. A spacecraft’s last look, not a property of Saturn.

What it does not

Not the Keeler Gap. The 42 miles per pixel is a second print on the same caption.
