Hipparcos put Capella near 42.8 light-years. Gaia sits nearer 43.4. The Book printed 42.80. The later catalogue is not a miss of the earlier one.
What it supports
A measured stellar distance, Hipparcos parallax 76.20 mas → 42.8 ly. Multiplicity is real: two yellow giants and a distant red-dwarf pair.
What it does not
Not an integer 42. Gaia DR3 is closer to 43.4 ly.
